Best Hollywood Movies Car Stunts

top 10 movie car stunts picture
Best Movies Car Stunts

Nothing grips us at Top Speed more than a seriously dangerous car chase scene while munching on popcorn and sipping on a cold one. Be it special effects or balls to the wall stunt driving, the action entertainment factor is undeniable and just another reason to love the movie industry. They get to do things we mere mortals only dream of doing with cars we only dream of woning. Every new blockbuster brings faster, harder, and more dangerous antics than before, keeping us glued and wanting more.

This collection spans more than thirty odd years proving that older movies with real stunts and no CGI still get our blood pumping, especially when you consider the dangers faced by stuntmen all those years ago. There are hot women, exotic metal, loads of tire screeching, crashes, and huge jumps to reminisce about. Here then, is our tribute to the best individual car stunt scenes Hollywood has to offer.

4. Italian Job

Italian Job

The mother of all car chases, from the sewers of Turin to the test track above the Fiat factory. The Mini is the only car that could have accomplished this and that’s what makes this special. How ingenious was it to pull a heist based on creating Italy’s worst traffic jam? It’s a Mini adventure starring Charlize Theron. Does it get any better than this? We think not.

Top Speed’s Top Ten (10) Hybrid and Electric Sports and Super Cars

Top Speed’s Top Ten (10) Hybrid and Electric Sports and Super Cars

Gas prices have been soaring nationwide for sometime now. As of March 2011, the national gas price average is $3.56 and rising. For many enthusiasts that may sound like the death knell for the cars they know and love. We can hear it now, “No more supercharged V8s, no more twin turbocharged V6s. Goodbye Mustangs, goodbye Corvettes.” It really sounds like a bleak outlook for enthusiasts who live, breathe, and eat these cars (not literally, of course).
Luckily, that doesn’t have to be our future. As many of you are already aware, many companies are making great strides to preserve performance cars for all of us. They’re using new technologies to not only make sports and super cars faster, but they’re using those same technologies to make them more fuel efficient, giving us hope that there will be no end to the fast cars that we love.
That’s where we come in. We have come up with our list of the Top 10 Hybrid Sports and Super Cars that all utilize new technologies to make them faster, more fun, and more fuel-efficient. All of these cars are either on sale now, will be in the future, or will have their technologies transferred into production cars within the next few years.
10. Honda CR-Z

Honda CR-Z

The Honda CR-Z is the spiritual successor to the legendary CRX. The CRX was small, nimble, and relatively quick, and because it weighed next to nil, it got great gas mileage. Honda sought to follow up that success with what they dub a “Sport Hybrid.” How does a car with only 122 HP and 128 lb/ft of torque get classified as a sport hybrid? Well, for starters the CR-Z is the first hybrid to come standard with a manual transmission– a six speed, no less. Also, the CR-Z’s battery pack is mounted near to the ground in the chassis, giving it a low center of gravity. So while the CR-Z might not be fast (0-60 in 9 seconds), it is nimble and fun to drive, while getting 31 MPG City and 37 MPG Highway.

9. Porsche Panamera S Hybrid

2.

Porsche Panamera S Hybrid

What can be said about the Porsche Panamera that hasn’t already been said? It’s a four door Porsche that sports somewhat polarizing looks and impressive performance numbers. Since the Panamera was released in 2009, it had been known mostly as a performance car though, not the sort of car that was capable of being environmentally friendly. Well that all changed this year when Porsche released the Panamera S Hybrid. The Panamera S Hybrid is powered by a supercharged 3.0L V6 and an electric motor, producing a combined 380 HP and a hustle from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 167 MPH.

8. Tesla Roadster

4.

Tesla Roadster

The Tesla Roadster was the first electric car that showed Americans that electricity really could be a viable fossil fuel alternative. Unlike the golf carts that cruised the streets of retirement villages in Florida, the Roadster could actually be operated on America’s vast interstate system. Also unlike the golf carts that preceded it, the Roadster was a red-blooded sports car. Since the Roadster made its debut in 2008 its been vastly improved. In Sport form and with 295 lb/ft of torque available instantly, the Roadster can whiz its way to 60 MPH in 3.7 seconds (the standard Roadster does it in 3.9). The 288 HP Lotus Elise-based Roadster can then keep going to an electronically limited top speed of 125 MPH. The Roadster can do all of this and still have a range of 245 miles on a full charge (unless you’re a notoriously lead-footed and loud-mouthed British journalist who only got 55 miles before his shut down).

7. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell

1.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell first appeared at this year’s Detroit Auto Show in an electrifying shade of yellow. The SLS AMG E-Cell is Mercedes-Benz’s first foray into the world of performance battery electric vehicles. Heavily based on the 563 HP V8 SLS AMG, the E-Cell will put out 525 HP out of a high voltage lithium-ion battery. The instant torque afforded by the E-Cell’s electric motor should also allow the E-Cell to hit 60 MPG in just 4 seconds. While Mercedes-Benz hasn’t released the E-Cell’s range or top speed yet, they have announced that the SLS AMG E-Cell will be going into production in late 2012 as a 2013 model.

6. BMW i8

1.

BMW i8

The BMW i8 is set to be the flagship of BMW’s “i” eco-sub brand when it’s finally released in 2013. Based on the Vision EfficientDynamics concept, the i8 will be an all wheel drive, plug-in hybrid powered by a 3-cylinder diesel that is expected to produce around 400 HP when combined with its two electric motors. 0-60 is supposed to happen within 4 seconds and top speed in the i8 is rumored to be limited to 155 MPH. As for fuel economy, the i8 is rumored to get a combined 58 MPG on the European cycle.

5. Audi e-tron Spyder

1.

Audi e-tron Spyder

Revealed at the 2010 Paris Auto Show, the Audi e-tron Spyder is Audi’s fourth e-tron concept and the first to be a plug-in hybrid. The e-tron Spyder is powered by a twin turbo 3-liter V6 diesel, as well as two electric motors putting out a total combined 388 HP. The e-tron Spyder can reportedly dash to 60 MPH in 4.4 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 155 MPH. Audi also says that the e-tron Spyder has an electric only range of 31 miles and will get 106 MPG on the EPA’s test cycle– which if true, would be quite an impressive accomplishment.

4. Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid

1.

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid

Coming in at number four on our list of the Top Ten Hybrid Sports and Super Cars, is a car that really is neither but still deserves its place on this list due to its accomplishments. The Porsche 911 GT3 Hybrid is a Porsche 911 racecar that Porsche has been using to develop their hybrid technology under the pressures of a racing environment. In fact, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid has already seen its racing debut at the Nürburgring, no less. The 911 GT3 R Hybrid is powered by Porsche’s 480 HP Flat-6 which powers the rear wheels, and by two 80 HP electric motors that drive the front wheels, making the total output 640 HP. The thing that makes the 911 GT3 R Hybrid really special is that while it’s a hybrid, it has no batteries. Instead of batteries, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid uses a flywheel that stores built up kinetic energy so it can be called upon at will by the driver.

3. Ferrari 599 Hy-Kers

1.

Ferrari 599 Hy-Kers

The Ferrari 599 Hy-Kers is a Ferrari concept that first made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show last year. It features lightweight batteries that are built flat into the 599’s floor and it also features an electric motor that’s developed by Ferrari’s F1 team. This flywheel adds 100 HP to the 599’s 611 horsepower V12. This new electric motor, according to Ferrari, will allow the 599 Hy-Kers to deliver better fuel economy in the city where most high performance cars suffer, while also boosting its performance while it’s on the track. Ferrari says that technology from the 599 Hy-Kers could make it into its road cars as early as 2012.

2. Jaguar C-X75

1.

Jaguar C-X75

Coming in at number two on our list of the Top Ten Hybrid Sports and Super Cars is one cool cat, the Jaguar C-X75 Concept. While not slated for production, the C-X75 is simply revolutionary, and thus deserves the number two slot on our list. The C-X75 is a plug-in hybrid, powered by four electric motors, one at each wheel. The batteries for those electric motors are powered by two mini turbines that run on diesel, but are also designed to run on just about any combustible liquid– even alcohol. The combined six power plants of the C-X75 produce 780 HP and an astonishing 1,180 ft/lb of torque, pushing the C-X75 to 60 MPH in 3.3 seconds. Jaguar also says that the C-X75 is capable of a 68 mile range on battery power alone, and a frankly impressive range of 559 miles after that.
1. Porsche 918 Spyder
1.

Porsche 918 Spyder

Alas, the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Number one on our list of Top Ten Sports and Super Cars is the $845,000 Porsche 918 Spyder. First unveiled at last year’s Geneva Auto Show, the 918 Spyder is set for limited production and will make its debut in 2013. The 918 Spyder uses a lot of the technology that Porsche previously developed in its 911 GT3 R Hybrid, like its flywheel that can store excess kinetic energy and than be used as a boost function. When the production version debuts in 2013, the 918 Spyder will be powered by a 500 HP V8 and two electric motors, one in the front and one in the rear. The combined output of the engine and two motors is said to be in excess of 718 HP, with 60 MPH coming in 3.1 seconds and top speed estimated around 198 MPH. Porsche says that the Spyder can do all of this while getting 78 MPG combined on the Euro cycle. Impressed? We are, and that’s why the Porsche 918 Spyder comes in at number one on our list of the Top 10 Hybrid Sports and Super Cars.

The Top (10) Fast & The Furious Cars In The World

the top 10 cars of the fast amp the furious picture
The Top (10) Fast & The Furious Cars In The World

Now that the clock has finally run out and just hours away from the first showing of Fast Five - the fifth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise - we felt like it’s the right time to give proper respect to the characters that have made this movie franchise as fun as it has been since the first movie came out in 2001.
And if you think that we’re talking about resident leading men, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, guess again. This list has very little to do with them, or their other co-stars for that matter, but more so about what they were driving during the first four movies. Yes, dear friends. This is a list to honor the Top 10 cars of the Fast and Furious franchise!
Do take note that we compiled this list based on our opinions so if you have any sort of reaction on the cars we chose and the number we gave them, you have the floor in the comments section to let us hear about it.
Hit the jump to check out our list.

10. 1994 Acura Integra

1994 Acura Integra

This isn’t so much about the car than it is about the one driving it. Sure, a tricked out Integra is a pretty special piece of ride, but if you’ve got a hottie like Mia Torretto (Jordana Brewster) busting its chops, then consider the car as part of the overall package. Jump back to the scene where Mia and Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) go after Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) in their latest hijack attempt, and tell us that you wouldn’t want to sit shotgun next to the smoking hot Brewster.

9. 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse

2.

1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Brian O’Connor’s very first street race car in the entire franchise met an unceremonious end in the first movie, but the green-and-blue Eclipse became one of the most iconic cars in the franchise, not so much because it gave Dominic Toretto a run for his money - he later quipped the now-famous line "it don’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning’s winning". Anytime you get Vin Diesel to spew a nugget of wisdom like that, you have to give props to the car that made his bald head sweat.

8. 1997 Mazda RX-7

3.
997 RX-7
Han’s 1997 RX-7 actually was shown at the 2005 Tokyo Auto Show as a Veilside-tuned Japanese sportster. Turns out, Universal liked it so much that they decided to buy the car as is and worked on changing the car’s body color from the red/burgundy and black finish to a more audience-capturing bright orange and black finish. As for the Veilside Fortune body kit that it originally came with? Universal decided to keep it to make the car stand out in the movie. Good call, Universal.

7. Nissan 350Z Tokyo Drift

Nissan 350Z Tokyo Drift
The car responsible for turning the phrase "pink slip" into a part of everyday lexicon is Jesse’s 1995 Volkswagen Jetta. As one of the few European cars to make it to the movie, the Jetta became a big part of the first movie’s storyline after Jesse raced it against bad guy Johnny Tran and his Honda S2000. After losing the race and his Jetta, Jesse runs away with his car and sets of a chain reaction of events that eventually led to the movie’s climactic end.

6. 2006 Nissan 350Z Tokyo Drift

Nissan 350Z Tokyo Drift
The 2006 Nissan 350Z Tokyo Drift may have been the antagonist’s car - the all black finish pretty much says it all - but on its own, this Japanese sports car already exudes a certain level of bad-assery that made all those cars in Tokyo tremble in fear. On top of the intimidating finish, the 350Z Tokyo Drift also came with a 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine with an APS twin-turbo system that produces somewhere around 450 horsepower. The only thing more menacing than this piece of hot metal was the man sitting behind its wheel, the Yakuza-backed Drift King.

5.1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R

1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R

Brian O’Connor’s main ride for the sequel was a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34, a car that wasn’t actually sold in the US. For the purposes of the high-octane nature of the movie, this Skyline GT-R was given a C-West body kit and finished with a platinum pearl scheme courtesy of House of Kolor. Rounding out the changes were a set of 19" HRE 446 polished wheels inside Toyo Proxes T1-S tires. O’Connor’s fascination for Skylines underscores the model’s reputation in the street racing world as one of the most sought after models on the market.

4. 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

Roman Pearce (played by Tyrese) first made headway in the second installment of the franchise, "2 Fast 2 Furious". Together with Brian O’Connor, the two long time buddies aid in the successful capture of a local drug exporter. In the movie, Pearce drove a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder Convertible dressed in some resplendent metallic silver and purple ’webbed’ design that Tyrese actually picked out for the car. On top of that, the Eclipse Spyder was also given a Shine Street wide body kit, rear wing, and a set of Lowenhart BR-5 alloy wheels.

3. 1995 Honda Civic

1995 Honda Civic

It’s no coincidence that the three most memorable cars in the entire Fast and Furious franchise can be found in the first movie. The 1995 Honda Civics were not the fastest cars in the movie. Heck, they weren’t even used for racing purposes, but for the gang’s, shall we say, "night job". Remember all those scenes where Toretto and the gang were trying to hijack those trucks full of entertainment systems and were weaving their cars in and under a semi? Those were the Civics, baby.

2. 1995 Toyota Supra Turbo

4.

1995 Toyota Supra Turbo

On its own accord, a Toyota Supra has no business spitting out a Ferrari in a friendly drag race along the beach. But in the world of the Fast and Furious, tricked out Japanese renegades ruled over snobby Prancing Horses. That is, unless, you line up the former against an all-American muscle. Brian O’Conner’s orange wave of power was the ideal foil to the car on the top of this list. In one of the climactic scenes of the first movie, a despondent Toretto is met by O’Connor on a small slab of road for one final drag race. It was Spillner’s Japanese kamikaze versus Toretto’s American mauler. In the end, the latter met its doom - not the car’s fault - while the Supra Turbo lived to drive another day, ironically, in the hands of the man who laid waste to his car.

1. 1970 Dodge Charger R/T

1.

1970 Dodge Charger R/T

You can’t have a list of the Top 10 cars of the Fast and Furious franchise without having this menacing muscle in the top spot. As his father’s once-prized steed, Dominic Toretto took great lengths in taking care of this blown 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, even admitting to Brian O’Connor that this is the one car that even he was scared to drive. The Charger with the supercharged Chrysler 426 HEMI V8 engine extending out on the bonnet with a blower became the iconic vehicle of the movie franchise, having been a part of not just one, but two - the other one being the fourth movie - Fast and Furious movies.

New BMW M5 very Beautiful Car

BMW M5
BMW M5
The Internet will tell you that the Miramas circuit in the south of France was once home to the French Grand Prix where, in 1926, a man named Jules drove a Bugatti to victory.
We will tell you that today that circuit is currently hosting BMW's upcoming Teutonic truncheon of slideyness. Yes, it's another M5 teaser, and this time, we're doing burnouts.
BMW has revealed this clip showing the super-saloon's drifting ability, launch control function (preventing you from needing a new set of rear tyres say, every morning) and, erm, how it can ‘drive-through-a-village'. Sadly, no other details are present, other than the fact it topped 190mph. Which is fast. You'll of course know that it now packs a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 mated to a seven-speed double-clutch box.

The Fastest Production Cars in the World

The Fastest Production Cars in the World - 2010

Last year I did a Hub about the fastest production cars in the world, so I thought I'd update and see if any more exotic machines had joined the ranks of the land rockets.
Previously we had the Bugatti Veyron, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT, the Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 and the Lamborghini Reventón, and for fun I threw in the 1968 Plymouth S/S Barracuda.
So let's take a look at the newcomers.....

Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

For starters we have the Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo.
The S7 is powered by a 7.0 L twin-turbocharged V8 that puts out 750 horsepower and 700 foot pounds of torque.
This allows the S7 to run 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, 0-100 in 5.9 seconds, 0-200 in 27 seconds and gives it a top speed of 248 mph.
Not too shabby huh?
Well the base price is $555,000, so it better not be!

Koenigsegg CCX

Koenigsegg CCX

This mid-engined Swedish roadster is powered by a 4.7 L twin-supercharged V8 that puts out a mind-blowing 806 horsepower.
According to Koenigsegg, the CCX can run from 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds, and has a top end of 259 mph.
The German automobile magazine Sport Auto clocked one going from 0 to 186 and back down to 0 in 29.2 seconds.
Base price...$545,568.

McLaren F1

McLaren F1

The McLaren F1 is powered by a 60° 6.1 L BMW S70/2 V12 that puts out 627 horses and allows the F1 to go from 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds, and hit 240 mph.
Considered to be "the finest driving machine yet built for the public road." by the British car magazine AutoCar, the F1 starts out at $970,000.

Ferrari Enzo

Ferrari Enzo

Named after the founder of Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari, this beauty is powered by a 6.0 liter V-12 that puts out 660 horsepower.
That gives the Enzo a 0 to 60 time of 3.1 seconds, and a reported top speed of 226 mph.
In case you are wondering, the MPG is 12 mpg in the city, and 18 mpg on the highway.
Though if you can afford the $670,000 base price, gas mileage probably doesn’t bother you.

Jaguar XJ220

Jaguar XJ220

The Jaguar XJ220 is powered by a comparatively small 3.5 L twin-turbocharged V6.
But that V6 is Twin Turboed and puts out around 542 horsepower.
Until the F1 came along, the Jag held the highest top speed of a production car (217 mph).
Base price...$650,000.

Pagani Zonda F

Pagani Zonda F

Powered by a 7.3 L AMG V12 putting out around 650 horses, the Pagani Zonda F can go from zed to 60 in 3.5 seconds, and top out at around 215 mph.
On an episode of Top Gear, the Pagani Zonda F beat the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 in a lap around the test track, but lost to the Veyron in a quarter mile drag race.
Base price is $667,321.

Porsche Carrera GT

Porsche Carrera GT

The Porsche Carrera GT is a mid-engine sports car powered by a 5.7 liter Aluminum, 68 Degree, Water Cooled, DOHC V10.
The V10 puts out around 612 horsepower, and allows the Carrera GT to go from 0 to 60 in in 3.9 seconds, and top out at around 205 mph.
And good news....with a base price of $440,000, the Porsche is the cheapest car on the list!

Most beautiful Cars In The World

TOP TEN Beautiful Cars Of The World All The Time
Over the last 100 years, car manufacturers have designed some amazing cars, both beautiful and hideous. It's hard to agree on a list of the most beautiful cars ever produced because inevitably personal taste comes into it.
However, the guys and girls over at Classic and Sports Car Magazine have recently carried out a survey to draw up a conclusive top 10 most beautiful cars. A 20 strong group of industry giants submitted 3 of their favourite, before narrowing it down to just 10.These included:
Peter Stevens (McLaren F1), Giorgetto Giugiaro (VW Golf, Lotus Esprit), Ian Callum (Jaguar), Marcello Gandini (Lancia Stratos, Lamborghini Countach), Patrick Le Quement (Renault), Martin Smith (Ford)

1962 Lotus Elite = 4th

1962 Lotus Elite = 4th

1962 Lotus Elite = 4th

The beautiful and small Elite was the result of Colin Chapman's (founder of Lotus) obsession with low weights of cars. Not only was the body constructed from fiberglass, but so was the chassis in a similar method to modern day carbon fibre hypercars.
There were problems, fibreglass not being as strong as carbon fibre, quiet a few were horribly damaged. Yet the small 75bhp engine, low weight and efficient aerodynamics made this a great little car and is joint 4th in the top 10.

1972 Lotus Elan = 4th

1972 Lotus Elan = 4th

1972 Lotus Elan = 4th

The Elan followed on from the (above) Elite, again it was made from fibreglass, yet this time had a steel backbone to add strength and rigidity. Annoying some purist designers saying it wasn't in the Elite style. Yet the Elan was far more popular and safer.
The minimalist design, sweeping curves and 'before it's time' pop up head lights make this a stunning little British sports car. 20 years later Mazda based their MX5 on the Elan, which has since gone on to be one of the most popular sports cars.

1968 Lamborghini Miura = 4th

1968 Lamborghini Miura = 4th

1968 Lamborghini Miura = 4th

A simply stunning car. It was British motoring journalist LJK Setright that referred to this car as a "supercar" which is where it all started. This is the FIRST supercar! Marcello Gandini who was on the judging panel for this list was also the chief designer of the Muira.
Designed by Lamborghini to prove a point to Ferrari who at the time said all sports cars should be front engined-rear wheel drive, the Muira was a mid engined V12 monster. According to many, non have come close to replicating this car's striking lines.

1971 Jaguar E-Type = 4th

1971 Jaguar E-Type = 4th

1971 Jaguar E-Type = 4th

For such a fast and powerful car, the Jaguar E Type is seen as many as a feminine design, with its sleek lines and beautiful stance. Some even refer to it as feline.
Styled around the aerodynamic of the D Type racers of the time, the E Type was a road friendly race car. It was technologically advanced for its time, yet the classic lines have remained as beautiful as ever.

1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB = 4th

1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB = 4th

1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB = 4th

When you think of beautiful cars, you can't forget the Ferrari's! This is the first of 3, and one of 2 from the 250 model. The GT SWB (Short Wheel Base) was described by Jaguar's Ian Cullen as “a blend of beauty and aggression. I just drool over them and can draw them with my eyes closed.”(obviously a fan)
Ferrari only ever made 165 of the GT SWB, and as a result the price is huge! Perfect examples will sell for upwards of $4mil when they come up for auction, which is not that often. The California Spyder version of the GT SWB became the most expensive car ever in May 2008 when it sold for a whopping $10.9 million to British Radio DJ Chris Evans.

1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso = 4th

1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso = 4th

1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso = 4th

The Lusso was the final version of the 250 model. It kept some of the aggressive racing lines of the SWB racer (above) yet some of the lines were smoothed out to give a more relaxing look. It was more of a Grand Tourer car, so was less aggressive in the driving too.
Pininfarina helped design this car leaving in the racing pedigree of Ferrari, yet the softer lines added some character to this stunning car. The Lusso pictured above was once owned by car nut Steve McQueen before his death.

1937 Cord 810/812 = 4th

1937 Cord 810/812 = 4th

1937 Cord 810/812 = 4th

The less well known Cord 810/812 series from the 1930's. It was way ahead of it's time with it's futuristic lines, Miura designer Marcello Gandini saying “it was an impressive design for the 1930s with solutions that would be seen on cars 20 years later.”
Using a V8 in front wheel drive was unheard of in the 30's, as well as hand cranked pop up head lights and a retractable roof. Sadly only 3000 of the 810 and supercharged 812's were ever produced.

1967 Ferrari 275GTB/4 Berlinetta = 2nd

1967 Ferrari 275GTB/4 Berlinetta = 2nd

1967 Ferrari 275GTB/4 Berlinetta = 2nd

Like the 250 GT Lusso, the 275 GTB/4 Berlinetta was a Grand Tourer. Designed to be comfy over long distances, but with serious power and speed if you needed it derived from Ferrari race cars.
Taking it's most basic lines from the classic 250 GTO, it was obviously aggressive, yet beautiful in it. A technological masterpiece, in a beautiful skin. "It was a fast as it was beautiful."

1952 Jaguar XK120 = 2nd

1952 Jaguar XK120 = 2nd

1952 Jaguar XK120 = 2nd

It seems an age away from it's 10 year younger E Type brother, but the XK120 is simply stunning. Jaguar's first post war sports car, this captured the hearts of many after many years of depressing war. It had a simply look, yet the lines made for a fun drive.
It was, like all the cars in the list, technogically marvelous, he straight six became a solid engine for Jaguar for years to come. The style of the long bonnet and short rear end also did well for Jaguar (see E Type) and this car set them up nicely for 50 years of amazing cars.

Are you a little surprised that a Citroen would be number 1? To those who know cars, it won't have been as the French makers 50's classic is regarded as one of the finest cars ever made.
“Impossible to imitate,” Giorgetto Giugiaro
“A few people may have thought of all of these beautiful ideas but it was real bravery to implement them in one car,” Marcello Gandini
“I have always considered the fact this car was first drawn in 1955 to be extraordinary.” Peter Stevens
What more do you need to say? These are some of the most regarded car designers of the last 50 years, and they love the Citroen DS. It seems so do Citroen, as in early 2009, they announced the name DS will be revived for a new range. Let's hope there as beautiful as the original.
