Car Insurance
Car Insurance in 2011 |
With more than 11 million accidents that occur in the United States each year making sure that you are backed up with proper car insurance can be one of the most important things you do. Nobody wants to pay more than needed, but make sure that you are covered good enough, or you may end up paying much more than you have ever expected.
In the United States there is a law for drivers to have a minimum level of insurance that will guarantee that the driver is able to cover the expenses to persons or property, if there is an accident in which the motorist is found guilty. However, requirements for insurance may vary between states in the U.S. Make sure that the insurance you have is enough for your state.
If you take a loan to buy a car, you must go for a full coverage of your vehicle. Shop around and get quotes from several different companies. Though it may take a long time to find the right one, your efforts will be paid off in the long run. You will see that car insurance quotes will vary from company to company.
Make sure you are covered with the basic coverage at least. Depending on how cautious you want to be, you can choose additional levels of coverage. Take a sober view of your financial situation. How much you can afford to spend on repairing or replacing the car after an accident. You can also be liable for payment of medical expenses and other expenses to any other person or property damage if you are not adequately covered. In most states, it is not enough to have just the minimal recommended car insurance policy, so think about the higher limits.
You can consider choosing your car insurance depending on the following:
- Property damage liability - replacement and repair of property of other people, if you are found responsible for the accident.
- Bodily injury liability covers other people injured, and death, if you are not to blame.
- Uninsured / underinsured motorist coverage will help you if the other driver who caused the accident has minimum or no car insurance.
- Collision covers will help with repairing of your car in case of an accident, when you are responsible for the accident.
- Comprehensive pays to fix or replace your car provided an accident is caused by a third party or is a result of the "Act of God" (vandalism, theft, hurricane, flood, etc.).
- Medical payments or personal injury protection insures any medical expenses regardless of who is to blame for the accident.
